Challenges Are Inevitable ~ Suffering Is Optional
People who come to me are often experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, panic or are going through a major life transition. Sometimes these difficulties are due to a significant traumatic event or are the results of circumstances, beliefs, or from seeing things through our filters. We are all unique and resourceful individuals but when we feel stuck, stressed, overwhelmed or confused, it may feel impossible to change. I am dedicated to helping people who struggle with self blame, criticism, guilt, self-judgement or low self esteem. Don't suffer any longer. Let me help you find a path to healing and well-being.
EMDR for Adults
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy) developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro is a psychotherapy approach to help people heal from trauma or issues of abuse, domestic violence, grief/loss, attachment wounds, abandonment, bullying, PTSD, and many other complicated life issues.
It integrates elements of many traditional psychological orientations and is based on the adaptive information processing model which hypothesizes that there is an inherent information processing system in the brain that gets blocked when traumatic or adverse events occur. This causes events to get locked in the brain with the original picture, sounds, thoughts, feelings and body sensations, so whenever a reminder of the traumatic or adverse event comes up, the feelings/panic related to those pictures, thoughts, feelings, and sensations continue to be triggered and felt.
EMDR therapy works on helping the brain reprocess these traumatic memories, and as a result alleviates the emotional response and resulting psychological disorders.
EMDR therapy is now validated as an evidence-based approach and included in SAMHSA (the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) and the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices.

Internal Family Systems Therapy - IFS
What is Internal Family Systems Therapy?
The IFS Model is an integrative approach to individual psychotherapy that promotes a sense of inner peace through internal connection and harmony. It combines systems thinking which is simply explained by understanding that whenever one person or part of a family (or system) is affected, the rest of the family (or system) is also affected as a result.
For an individual in therapy we define
Systems thinking simply by explaining that whenever you have found yourself saying, “Part of me wants to do ‘X’, but another part of me feels I should do ‘Y” there is disharmony between the those parts and the Self (defined below). In this therapy we work through a process to focus on the relationship between those parts and the Self in order to heal and create a cooperative, trusting relationship
between the Self and each part.
How it Works
Parts can have either extreme behaviors; (referred to as “roles”) or healthy behaviors/roles. IFS focuses on parts in extreme roles because they are causing the symptoms in our lives that make our life difficult. Symptoms such as depression, anxiety, anger, impulsivity, addictions, bingeing etc. These symptoms are a result of disharmony between our parts and our Self.
A core tenet of IFS is that every part has a positive intent for the person, even if its actions, behaviors or effects are counterproductive or cause dysfunction. Therefore, as IFS focuses on understanding and healing the relationships between parts and the Self, symptoms disappear, behavior improves, anger dissipates and life becomes happier.
The “Self” Defined
IFS assumes that everyone has a Self which contains the qualities of calm, curiosity, compassion, confidence, courage, clarity, connectedness, creativity, patience, presence, perspective, and perseverance. It is best understood that the Self is the part of us that is our true self or essence.
Through the therapeutic process, when the Self is, in actuality, leading the system every part is in relationship with the Self resulting in a balanced, harmonious system.
Since we all come into the world with parts and Self-energy, the IFS Model can be a useful therapeutic approach, for all ages or issues.
IFS was developed by Richard Schwartz.
What is Sandtray Therapy?
Sandtray therapy is a type of expressive therapy used by children, adolescents, teens, individual adults, couples, families and/or groups. It is a dynamic model of therapy that is used in the presence of a trained sandtray therapist.*
When you work with a trained therapist, a sandtray office will be equipped with an extensive collection of miniature objects, sand contained in trays with a blue bottom and water.
Clients are encouraged to play, dig, build up and create worlds or landscapes of mountains, valleys and rivers with either dry or wet sand exactly as they wish. Opportunities are provided to create dramatic scenes with personally selected objects and figures that tell a story. Clients can speak or remain silent while building.
There is no right or wrong way to play. The gift in using sand is that it requires no skill or artistic talent to build or play in the sand, yet offers an endless capacity for self-creation without being intimidating to the creator.
None of the objects or landscapes express any specific meaning to the witness, yet over a period of time the process of shaping and molding this impressionable, malleable, yielding substance into complex multi-dimensional scenes will shed light and insight to the builder as well as the witness allowing the healing work to happen.
